When it comes to decorations for one of the biggest parties you'll ever throw, designer Gayle Harvie of Belles + Whistles knows that sometimes your vision exceeds what's available or affordable at traditional rental companies. "Customization allows for the couple to get what they want to achieve the look and transform the venue," says Harvie. Over the years, she and her husband have built their business on the idea of making any design fit any space. Below, find some of their most innovative designs and tips for planning the wedding of your dreams.

This "Circle of Love" ceremony installation at Lord Hill Farms featured silver dollar, gunni and seeded eucalyptus, with white waxflower interspersed, hand-tied to a custom-built metal hoop. The eye-catching backdrops seen in many of today's ceremonies require engineering and often construction to work: make sure to with your planner well in advance of the big day about how to bring your vision to life.

For a showstopping sweetheart table, Belles + Whistles built a cuved garden wire connected to two wooden planter boxes, then draped it with silver dollar and seeded eucalyptus and floral clusters. One of this year's biggest trends, pampas grass, added depth and texture. Elegant execution like this comes from detailed planning far in advance, says Harvie. "A theme is successful through organization, attention to detail and research."

This simple yet elegant backdrop was an anchor for the decor at Seattle Bride's Best of 2019 awards. Even something this minimal took construction: built from treated lumber, the wood was stained with a torch to achieve a rich tone. Swags of pampas grass, protea, candlelight and malaya gem spray roses, stock and disbud grounded the nautical theme of the event.

This whimsical baby shower drew from inspiration found on Pinterest. It's been said that the site can give couples unrealistic expectations, but a custom designer can achieve a precise look with new construction. "It's important to be straightforward about the costs of things," says Harvie. By pointing out that the florals in that installation you've been eyeing are ultra-premium, your planner can open a productive conversation about substitutions you can make to stay within your budget, while still achieving your dream day.

The floating chandelier seen here and above was a feat of engineering and featured tree fern base, huck, salal, Israeli and Italian ruscus with hydrangeas, roses and ranunculus florals. It tied the visual theme of the wedding together by serving as the centerpiece in the ceremony and reception, maximizing the continuity between the two parts. The elements of the metal frame and floral garland combined with the rustic-chic venue for an unforgettable design.

Floral installations and other unique pieces of event design won't be going anywhere in 2020. Dream big and plan the wedding you've always wanted, remembering to keep track of your budget and allow plenty of time to realize your vision.
