Dance Party: Electric Wedding Day at King Street Ballroom

From the day they met, Jared and Ben were inseparable. The couple built a life together, traveling the world, caring for their pups, Dolly and Jolene, and going to concerts—especially those of the electronic dance music (EDM) variety. So when it came time to say “I do,” they knew they wanted to throw a lively affair.

“The focus of their wedding was all about creating a great atmosphere for their chosen friends and family,” says Seattle-based photographer Jen Patterson. “They wanted it to truly feel like a celebration, where everyone felt equally seen and involved.” Also important was honoring Ben’s Chinese heritage, which they did during a traditional tea ceremony and via an emphasis on the color red throughout the celebration.

The grooms exchanged vows atop the King Street Ballroom’s rooftop terrace, standing before a stunning, sculptural red-and-white floral arrangement. Dolly and Jolene, dressed in their wedding-day finest, trotted down the aisle carrying the rings in red boxes. Once the proverbial knot had been tied, the true party could begin.

Guests were whisked into the ballroom, where elegant black draping set the stage for the high-energy evening to come. The newlyweds, clad in chic ivory suit jackets, made their grand entrance into their EDM-inspired reception, complete with a black-and-white checkered dance floor, lasers, fog machines and showstopping pyrotechnics. Sparks were indeed flying as they shared their first dance as a married couple. —Lauren Mang
