World Travelers: Embodying the girl-next-door love story, Makenna Hamre, a program assistant for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and Barclay Klingel, a consultant for a Redmond-based tech company, met at the University of Washington in 2009 and promptly became friends. A romantic semester abroad in Spain ignited a new passion, with the pair becoming engaged in 2013.
The Design: The couple developed a common wanderlust during their time in Europe. “Since then we have traveled the world together,” Makenna says. “We threaded in this element by naming our tables after places we have been, such as Honduras, Dubrovnik, Granada and Kotor Bay.” They didn’t neglect their Pacific Northwest roots however, paying homage with a salmon dinner, wood chargers, and hints of moss in the decor. Vivid bouquets in shades of red and yellow, cobalt bridesmaid dresses and wildflowers finished the bright and blissful tone.
