Seattle Meowtropolitan Cat Café co-owner Laurence Shangkuan initially met with advertising specialist, Debby Cheng, to help answer some questions she had about his graduate school. Neither could have predicted what the future would hold after that lunch meeting. After five years of dating, Laurence surprised Debby with flowers, a card and a handmade “housecleaning” coupon book. On the last page of the coupon book he wrote, “Will you marry me?”
The organic beauty of the gardens at Willows Lodge led to the inspiration for Debby and Laurence’s romantic union. Surrounded by accents of lovely roses, dahlias, protea and various other blooms, the couple welcomed friends and family from around the world. They read heartwarming letters to their parents, who all flew in from Taiwan, before exchanging vows and celebrating into the night. Guests dined in buffet style on prime rib, halibut, couscous salad and an assortment of hors d’oeuvres that included wild mushroom crostini with goat cheese. Party favors included “meow-carons” (cat-shaped macarons) and custom-made wooden coasters of the Seattle skyline for guests to forever remember the magical night.
