Holly Patton & Kristian Olsen
Married and celebrated: The Foundry by Herban Feast in SoDo
Date: October 15, 2016
HOW THEY MET: Holly Patton, owner of local wedding planning company Perfectly Posh Events, and Kristian Olsen, an Alaskan fisherman, met at the wedding of Kristian’s cousin. After catching up with old friends during cocktail hour, Holly was left looking for an empty seat at the open-seating dinner. Before she knew it, the wedding coordinator seated her right next to Kristian at one of the reserved family tables. “The rest is history,” says the bride.
THE PROPOSAL: The couple loves popcorn and makes it several times each week. Early on, Kristian playfully mentioned that if Holly kept making stove-top popcorn every week, he’d keep dating her. He proposed to her by putting her ring at the bottom of a bowl of popcorn. As a sentimental nod to his sweet proposal, they also surprised guests at the wedding with a popcorn bar.
TRADITIONS: The groom is a third-generation halibut and black cod fisherman, which made it an easy choice to settle on black cod as one of the entrée options for a family-style dinner. After dinner, guests sipped on specialty espresso drinks from Holly’s father’s company, Espresso Elegance. For favors, they combined their family traditions and included favors that represented each family: a bag of coffee from the Patton family and handmade salt cellars containing San Juan Island sea salt from the Olsen family.
THE DESIGN: To bring their dream of a beautiful garden wedding indoors, the bride commissioned Floressence to festoon the ceremony space with lush, abundant blooms and greenery, even adding organic touches to the venue’s signature wine barrel wall. The bride surprised the groom with a ski-themed groom’s cake from West Seattle bakery Baked and a miniature golf course setup during the reception, complete with a hot dog cart and custom golf balls. Meanwhile, the bride was surprised herself by a parade of pink dolphins during the dance party. “Pink is my favorite color, and dolphins are my favorite animal, so obviously pink dolphins are my absolute favorite. Herban Feast even had little pink dolphins on the flavor cards for the popcorn bar—everywhere I looked there were little surprises like that, and I loved it!”
