With a bride who happens to be the marketing coordinator for Seattle's resident circus, Teatro ZinZanni, and a groom who's not afraid to get in on the DIY action, you can bet their wedding was pretty fabulous. The couple chose to make the day their own by incorporating a few personal details, like the apples to represent the bride's apple farming heritage, some DIYs (um, hello, the groom made that ceremony arch!) and customizing a few others, like the bride's sleek gown alteration (read more below). While everything didn't go exactly according to plan, what with the exceptionally blustery Eastern Washington weather, guest delays due to a tipped-over apple truck and more (yes, more), the bride and groom chose to see those moments as memorable tidbits, rather than potential disasters. From the bride:
"My husband and I both grew up in Eastern Washington and knew we wanted an outdoor summer wedding with DIY elements. So out came the chainsaw, and soon enough he was able to transform tree stumps into centerpieces and branches into a very unique wedding arch, with a stained glass piece from Overstock.com. Working at the circus has it's perks, not only was I able to borrow a real life kissing booth from our prop shop at Teatro ZinZanni, I had a costume shop filled with talented artisans. I hired Stephanie Seymour, who at the time was the Costume Shop Manager, to lower the back of my dress to reveal my tattoo. My mom, who made my dresses growing up, thought it couldn't be done. All those beads! But it came out just as I imagined.
Although we were both anticipating a 100 degree wedding day, the weather surprised us by being in the high 70s and quite blustery! Twenty minutes before the ceremony, our wedding arch blew over. Along with that we had a strange series of mishaps that could only be encountered in Eastern Washington: an apple truck tipped over on the highway and delayed guests, frequent elk crossings, wildfires, deer crashing our reception, and someone drank a bee that had snuck into a glass of cider! But all those strange things made our big day even more memorable. The reception turned into an epic dance party, which was followed by a late late night shutting down the local bars."
