When Ian Stirling, 29, an office manager at Totokaelo, and Obed Garza, 36, senior director of client services at Bally Technologies, were introduced by a mutual friend, their friendship quickly developed into a relationship, and the pair never looked back. After an Alki Beach proposal, the Capitol Hill–based couple set out to plan a celebration to remember with a large hurricane vase full of disco balls, a documentary on the famed clothing designer Halston and the legendary nightclub Studio 54 serving as inspiration. The two gave guests a night to remember, starting when the wedding party, family members and close friends got the party started at the KMTT (The Mountain) Suite at the Alexis Hotel, where they prepped for the day. Later in the evening, a video introduction produced by Ian’s cousin turned the sky-high ceilings of EMP’s Sky Church into a personal and intimate space for the couple to recite their vows. To keep with their Studio 54 theme, the couple and their wedding planner, Lisa Chambers, planned interludes of entertainment throughout the night. These showstopping moments—a stunning Madonna impersonator midreception and aerialist performers—kicked the party into high gear.
