Joe and Madelyn met by chance at Ballroom, a bar in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood. Neither had planned to be there—Joe was persuaded to go out by his friend (and future groomsman), while Madelyn was celebrating a friend’s birthday. The moment she saw Joe, she couldn’t look away—his warm smile and kind eyes immediately drew her in. After several failed attempts to catch his attention, Madelyn walked up and introduced herself. That bold move sparked nearly six years of shared adventures: music festivals, mountain backpacking trips, sailing the San Juans, building a life together, and raising their spirited blue heeler dog, Izzy.
The couple returned to Fremont to tie the knot, bringing their story full circle. To honor that connection, they commissioned retro-inspired welcome posters featuring Ballroom’s iconic neon sign and the metal stairwell of their wedding venue—complete with a playful illustration of Izzy dangling from the stair rails. These custom pieces now live in their home as lasting reminders of their beginning. Says Madelyn, “We wanted unique, artistic welcome posters that we could hang up in our home as a forever reminder of our big day, and they turned out even better than in our imagination.”
