Brenda Luu and Benjamin Chao’s wedding weekend beautifully reflected their affection of culture and community. Guests were welcomed with a thoughtfully designed program featuring a photo of the couple in traditional garments taken in Taiwan earlier that year. The booklet included an “About” section, an event schedule and a clever bingo game to encourage mingling, asking guests to find “Ben’s childhood friend” and “Brenda’s cousin from Denmark,” for example. Festivities began with a vibrant tea ceremony at Stan Head Cultural Center honoring Brenda’s Vietnamese-Chinese and Benjamin’s Taiwanese-Chinese heritages. The celebration was warm and energetic, featuring lion dancing, a Vietnamese buffet and interactive games. The outdoor ceremony at Alderbrook Resort’s Waterfront Lawn showcased the couple’s love for nature and elegance. They exchanged vows surrounded by lush greenery and ivory florals while a live jazz band played, paying homage to Benjamin’s musical background. The rich color palette of mocha mousse, toffee and mustard was reflected in the bouquets and bridesmaid dresses. This same palette continued into the reception with floral centerpieces complemented by creamy linens and candlelight. A surprise twist—a few Smirnoff Ice bottles taped underneath the chairs—had guests laughing and celebrating.
