Yankun Zhao and Ming Xu met through friends at graduate school in Michigan. Though it took them more than a year to have a real conversation, once they started talking they hit it off, and the friendship evolved into a relationship.
It would be tough to imagine a cuter proposal: “I’m a crazy corgi lover,” the bride says, and while her parents take care of her corgi back in China, here in Seattle she can’t help but cuddle every corgi she comes across. During a trip to Las Vegas, Ming surprised Yankun by arranging to have a corgi (wearing a bow tie, of course) arrive in front of the Bellagio’s fountain as the pair walked by. As usual, Yankun ran to pet the corgi—and promptly found a ring on his bow tie.
For their vintage-inspired celebration, the couple was fixated on details, right down to the flowers—the bride’s favorite detail of the wedding. She sought to make them as unique as possible, electing for wild-looking deep reds and purples, velvet ribbon and a flower crown for herself and beautiful dream-catcher-style pendants for her bridesmaids. To top things off, she wished for one specific friend to catch the bouquet when she tossed it during the reception—and she got her wish.
Yankun and Ming followed their venue’s advice when selecting a caterer, and they couldn’t be happier with their selection of Tuxedo and Tennis Shoes. “Our caterer really surprised us—each dish had details, decoration and multilayered flavor,” Yankun says. The pair elected for a range of Asian fusion food, with a signature poke bar, set up on a vintage bar cart during the cocktail hour, proving to be a huge hit with their guests.
