The past year has been a whirlwind of uncertainties and unexpected changes, especially for the wedding industry. Planning a wedding in normal times is always a daunting task - and in a global pandemic, it’s sure to be even crazier. But weddings have found new ways to adapt, allowing this celebration of love to prevail. Whether it is color palettes, floral arrangements, or guest lists, this season’s expert wedding planners, designers and florists have weighed in on the hottest trends to make your wedding a showstopper. From neutral tones to intimate gatherings, these ideas are sure to spark inspiration and set your wedding apart from the crowd.
A new way of using florals is on the rise, according to Nora Sheils from Bridal Bliss and Alisha Reicks-Sturgill from The Indigo Bride. Covid has forced many couples to shrink their guest lists, but this change does not mean weddings are any less special. While couples may not be able to celebrate with the big event they imagined, a smaller wedding allows them to go big in other areas. Nora Sheils says, “Florals, although scaled back in breadth, if anything they are becoming more lavish. Here we are anticipating a slight nod to a more modern aesthetic, but still romantic and full feeling.”
Guests are still at the center of many new wedding trends, though, such as small blooms being given to guests as a thank you and reminder for how appreciated their presence is. Nora also sees florals becoming more personal, with flowers attached to childhood homes or specific memories and events making an appearance in more weddings.
Alisha Reicks-Sturgill is also excited for the variety in florals that she expects will continue into the 2021 wedding season. Get ready to see a continued rise in unstructured, wild, and driedflorals. She says, “There’s more variety, colors, and textures that really make the flowers pop. Overall, bright colors have been on the rise in weddings and it’s no surprise that “Illuminating” (essentially yellow) was named one of Pantone’s colors of the year.”
