Whimsical National Park-Themed Wedding

Real Wedding

Looking at the photos from this lovely wedding, you'd never guess the day was plagued with heavy downpours, strong winds and power outages. The sun appeared just in time for the ceremony and that golden light made for some truly magical moments just before the venue lost power, leaving the couple and their family and friends to celebrate by lantern light. I can't help but connect with this bride and groom, since the exact same situation happened at my own wedding. The power went out, never came back on and we danced by candlelight into the wee hours of the morning. And you know what? I wouldn't change a minute of it, and judging by this bride's description of her day, she feels exactly the same way.

From the bride:

"We had been experiencing one of the warmest and driest summers on record, and despite our best efforts to escape the typical PNW soggy weather on the day of our wedding, mother nature had a different plan. Heavy rain, strong winds and power outages, meant we had to abandon our dream of having a wedding in the woods and move it under the protection of a nearby pavilion. As luck would have it, the sun came out just in time for the ceremony and the lighting was beautiful. The aisle was lined with lush ferns and fairy light lanterns, and a stunning six-foot wreath framed Hood Canal, providing a beautiful ceremony backdrop.

The power went out before our rustic log hall wedding reception even began, but mason jar lanterns set the mood for a lovely celebration and a last minute generator acquisition provided just enough power for music and dance floor lighting. We took inspiration from our honeymoon, an epic southwestern adventure in which we visited 7 national parks and each table had a different national park postcard. Succulents and cacti wedding favors were a nod to the groom's Arizona roots.

The wedding planning was done by the bride and groom, but the whole thing was pulled together by family and close friends. We loved all of our vendors and thought everyone did an amazing job, considering all of the challenges the weather presented. Very little went as planned that day, but everything turned out beautifully."
