When Tammy Mitchel and Porter Sesnon tied the knot at Rosario Resort & Spa on Orcas Island last summer, creativity—and love—took center stage. “Growing up, my mom was always working on cross-stitch projects, to give as gifts and for decor throughout our home. I always admired the detail and precision, the nuance of placing the needle perfectly to curate a colorful and comprehensive picture,” says the bride. “I wanted to have my mom involved in a way that was meaningful to her, especially given our 250-mile difference.” Enter custom needlework signage: table numbers, bar signage (A crowd favorite: “Always Be Spritzin’” on display, created with the bride’s signature cocktail, an Aperol spritz, in mind) and more, all hand-stitched by the bride’s mother for the day.
The couple’s wedding planner, Jen Owens of Jen Leslie Events, offered her expertise regarding the crafty trend: “Needlework or embroidery details look great with wedding designs that are boho, rustic, outdoors, contemporary or even Pacific Northwest.” Use these crafts for anything from escort cards to handkerchiefs, adding that one-of-a-kind, personal touch. Such items also make long-lasting mementos. Tammy and Porter plan to display the table numbers at home: “Those pieces are something that will color our home forever and take us back to a special day,” says the bride.
