“In the few weeks leading up to their wedding, Mackenzie and Will hit almost every road block possible, with having to downsize their guest list drastically, to vendors cancelling last minute,” says Piper Essick of Petals by Piper, who produced florals and design elements for the event. But determination – and love – kept them inspired. The bride designed the aesthetic, working with close friends; Essick (who also officiated the ceremony); and photographer Marcella Laine, who was also a bridesmaid. “With a dry, desert color palette, inspired by the hills of central Washington, the couple was married nestled between ceramic pots filled with desert and tropical-inspired florals," set against a Columbia River backdrop. “The bride’s father and friends transformed the venue into a desert-tropical oasis, featuring yurts, long wooden tables covered in delicate florals, and a dark summer sky lit by hundreds of string lights,” recalls Essick. To cap off the night, and “in the spirit of celebration and brightening these dark times, the couple signed their marriage certificate with all of their guests as witnesses, and together they all sealed the ceremony with a whiskey toast.”
