Vibrant Queer Wedding at Chihuly Garden and Glass at Seattle Center

Tiffany and Ashli Chen-Dong, initially colleagues, reunited as friends one fine day in San Francisco. During the pandemic, the two became inseparable, blending their families and fusing their lives together. Tiffany proposed to Ashli in her pajamas with their dog, Mochi, at their side. In a playful turnabout, Ashli surprised Tiffany at the spot of their first date, proposing with friends present, leading to Tiffany’s wholehearted acceptance. Ashli and Tiffany’s wedding at Chihuly Garden and Glass at Seattle Center was a celebration of boldness, sophistication and the unapologetic embrace of their queer identity. Inspired by their desire to normalize LGBTQ+ weddings, they designed a celebration that showcased their vibrant personalities and love. The couple intentionally selected vendors who were comfortable working with a nontraditional Asian American lesbian couple, ensuring their wedding vision came to life while integrating diverse styles. The venue, with its larger-than-life glass art and urbane ambiance, perfectly embodied their whimsical, artistic style. The floral theme, initially conceived with birds of paradise, transformed into a rainbow motif, representing the couple’s commitment to forging new queer traditions. The intentional coordination of bouquets for both brides, despite their differing attire, reflected their love for coordinating outfits and the uniqueness of their relationship. The wedding included free admission to the glass museum, a carefully crafted music playlist and a choreographed rumba to “Señorita.” Ashli and Tiffany’s celebration blended nostalgia with a forward-thinking, progressive outlook, encouraging others to begin new traditions while wholeheartedly accepting and celebrating their authentic selves.
